It was a hard time for African Americans since when Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves from the war. They had segregated schools meaning a white school and a black school. Usually the white one would be more modern while the black one would be old fashioned. Until a girl name Ruby Bridges came along and wanted to go to a with school for education.
