Read the sentences. it rained today, and my car wouldn’t start. therefore, the rain broke my car. this is an example of what logical fallacy?

This is an example of a non sequitur logical fallacy. Fallacies are understood as mistaken beliefs which are based upon unsound arguments. They can either be formal or informal.

Formal fallacies are deductive and happen when the conclusion does not follow the premise and informal fallacies are inductive and are mainly identified through supporting evidence.

There is subtype of formal fallacies called "non sequiturs" which refers to fallacies wherein someone reaches a conclusion that does not follow the prepositions.

1) It rained today

2) My car didn't start

3) My car didn't start because the rain broke my car

Perhaps your car didn't start because it is old, because it ran out of battery.  There are millions of reasons tha have nothing to do with that day's climate.
