In "Romeo and Juliet", Lady Capulet is the mother of Juliet, the main character. Throughout the story line, her character is described an obedient one, and therefore she demands and expects that her daughter would be obedient as well. It seems very likely that Lady Capulet herself had an arranged marriage, and therefore she is excited for Juliet to marry Paris, and ignores her when Juliet begs for support as she does not want to do so. She will never approve Juliet being in love with a Montague, as she will never disobey her own husband's commands and beliefs.

the servant does not kill the child oedipus as he was ordered to do because "he pitied the child" based on the oedipus rex story. the servant was ordered to kill the child because of the prophecy that predicted king laius' death. the king already had attempted to hurt oedipus by piercing oedipus's ankle. however, the servant did not finish the job and he rather saved the baby oedipus.
