The outbreak of cholera in the Soho district near Broad Street prompted Snow to investigate the cause of the disease. He observed that more than 500 fatal attacks of cholera occurred within the vicinity of the Broad Street water pump. Snow suspected that contaminated water from the pump could be the cause of the epidemic. He charted a map of the locality and mapped the deaths as well as the places that used water from the Broad Street water pump.  

Snow's findings and markings on the map help us understand the correlation between the water pump and the deaths. The map serves as statistical as well as scientific evidence and strengthens Snow’s claim that the water pump spread cholera:
