There is a long term-significance of the Marbury versus Madison ruling. This is related to the establishment of the Court's authority as the final word on the constitutionality of legislation and executive acts. When it comes to the principle of judicial review, this held a significant role for it allowed Supreme Court to declare an act of congress unconstitutional.
