Can someone help me put this essay in MLA format? I'll give you 25 points more. For this topic, I chose option A: in The Great Gatsby, “what does F. Scott Fitzgerald suggest about the state of the American Dream, the people who pursue it, and the impact of that pursuit through his depiction of Jay Gatsby and the people in Gatsby’s life?”

In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald says that “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is what makes up the American dream. Although he also says it was always an illusion, how it has become increasingly tarnished and out of reach. His story focuses on the rich, he includes stories of people like Klipspringer and the Wilsons, who do not have any access to the American dream. The Great Gatsby takes place in the twenties, narrated by a young man named Nick Caraway, also known as daisy’s cousin. Throughout the book we learn how Gatsby: Nick’s neighbor and a few other characters strive to achieve the American dream.
The Great Gatsby’s characters imbody the American dream as Nick describes them. In the quote “It passed, and he began to talk excitedly to Daisy, denying everything, defending his name against accusations that had not been made. But with every word she was drawing further and further into herself, so he gave that up and only the dead dream fought on as the afternoon slipped away, trying to touch what was no longer tangible, struggling unhappily, undespairingly, toward that lost voice across the room” we learn how Daisy’s husband, tom is unfaithful and unhappy and daisy knows it. Daisy stays with tom despite knowing he’s cheating on her, Gatspy is also pursuing the american dream but as stated in the novel it never came true, his dream is to be with daisy, in the quote “I thought of Gatsby's wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy's dock. He had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it” you realize Gatsby’s dream to be with daisy is nearly impossible as it was far out of his reach.

The characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby seek the American Dream, unfortunately they don’t all achieve what they are wishing and working for. The characters that already have the life of the American Dream are unhappy with it. In the book, we read about the characters Tom and his wife Daisy and their lives. “Her husband, among various physical accomplishments, had been one of the most powerful ends that ever-played football at New Haven—a national figure in a way, one of those men who reach such an acute limited excellence at twenty-one that everything afterward savors of anti-climax. His family were enormously wealthy—even in college his freedom with money was a matter for reproach.”. They are living the American dream, they have everything they could ever need or want, but they are very unhappy in their relationship, Daisy loves a man named Gatsby while being married to Tom and Tom is constantly cheating on Daisy with another mistress. Daisy’s dream is not accomplished with just wealth and fame, but it is also about keeping up a high status, Daisy tries to maintain her good reputation by staying with her husband, Tom, despite him cheating on her. Despite cheating Tom still loves Daisy and tries to stay with her.
