Emotional intelligence is applicable to the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups. Just as verbal intelligence deals with the mental ability to reason with verbal information, emotional intelligence relates to emotional information.
Emotional intelligence helps a person create and maintain better social relations and avoid conflicts. In addition, it helps a person understand himself or herself better. Emotional information, signals, and nonverbal messages are central in many situations. Some people are more adept at interpreting those messages. For example, some people can perceive others' intent to hurt or to woo. A person can rely on his or her emotional intelligence to get through demanding days. In this way, emotional intelligence can help establish harmony with one's self and with others.
