Read the following passage and reply to the question given below: An old man visited his son, who lived with his family in a small country house. The son
had a wife and a 5-year-old son. The grandfather was quite weak and old, due to which
his hands trembled and he also had a blurr eyesight. He was unable to walk properly and
had a difficult time walking from one place to the other. At dinner time, it was difficult
for the father to eat without creating a mess because of his trembling hands and blurry
vision.
His son and wife both started getting annoyed due to the constant mess, therefore, they
arranged for a small table and placed it in a corner of the room, where the father atealone. They also gave him a wooden bowl to eat from because of quite many plates being
broken earlier by him. He used to have tears in his eyes as he ate alone.
Their little son continued to observe his parents and his grandfather without uttering a
word.
It was one evening that the son noticed his little son busy playing in the living room, with
wood scraps scattered all around him. He was surprised to see him playing and sweetly
asked the child, “My son, what is it that you are doing?” In a similar way, the boy replied
sweetly, “Oh, Daddy! Look! I am making you and mother a present. You can use these
bowls to eat your food from when I grow up.” The five-year-old grinned and continued
playing with the wooden scraps.
The words hit them so hard that they became speechless. The same night, the son quietly
took his father towards the family table. He ate every meal with the family for the rest of
his stay. From then on, neither the son nor his wife fretted if the father dropped a fork, or
spoiled the tablecloth.
Question:
What do you think were the turning points in the story that made the son and daughter-inlaw change their attitude? When you grow up and take charge of your own household,
how would you deal with your elderly parents if you encounter a similar situation?
Answer in the form of a composition of not more than 150-200 words.
