30 POINTS FOR ANSWER Has the weather gotten worse in the last ten years? Nigel Clark says yes. He issued a report today that charts weather patterns over the past decade. It shows that droughts, severe rains and record temperatures are on the rise all over the world.

The cause isn't clear, but Clark thinks he has the answer. "It's pollution, "he says. "We have more cars and factories than ever before. Their exhaust heats up the atmosphere. This affects normal weather. The widespread changes in weather can't be explained any other way. I'm afraid that if we don't find cleaner sources of energy, we'll end up with a barren planet."

Deb Brown reviewed Clark's report. She's not convinced by his conclusions. "His data are accurate. We have had more rain, heat and cold than usual. But it's too early to say that pollution is the cause. Many things affect weather. I believe the changes in our weather are part of a natural pattern."

Clark's report will be available to the public.
