Read an essay about Edgar Allan Poe's story "The Black Cat" and look for weaknesses in the writing. Describe how the writer should revise the work, and edit the essay for errors in capitalization, spelling, and punctuation.

Ask yourself these questions as you revise:
Did I clearly and completely describe content changes I would make to strengthen the essay?
Did I suggest evidence from "The Black Cat" to support points that were unsupported in the essay?
Did I cut material from the essay that was unnecessary, mistaken, or illogical?
Did I mark the essay carefully to correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization?

3. Where does the writer fail to support her points with evidence? What evidence from the story would you suggest adding to support these points?

4. Read the essay again and edit it for errors. Find and fix as many spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors as you can. Pay special attention to the errors you learned about in the lesson, but look for other types of errors as well. You may write your edits directly into the essay.
