5.08 Discussion: Evaluate Visual Media
In this discussion, you'll reflect on the various types of media you studied and consider how effective they were at conveying messages.
Read Jeremy's post:
I have to admit that the photo titled "Poor whites, Georgetown, D. C." made me feel uncomfortable and sad, so, in a way, the photo was definitely effective in some respect. I think that any decent person would look at a photo of dirty, unhappy children and want to help them in some way. One question I have is, why does the title focus on the race of the children?
Create one original post that:
Evaluates the photo "Poor whites, Georgetown, D. C." as well as one other visual media image of your choice.
Answers the following questions: What message does each piece of media convey? How effective are the visual images? Give specific details to support your answer.
Create two response posts that:
Respond respectfully and meaningfully to the original post of a classmate.
Use the discussion rubric to find out how you will be graded.

What if the author had used “looked at” instead? punishment would be deemphasized. punishments would be seen as less harsh. the meaning wouldn't change.
