Read the following summary of a play: Kara is a young photographer whose next promotion
depends on the success of her current photo spread. Alex
is an athlete whom Kara shot a story of recently.
Which of the following scenes best conveys the basic elements of this play?
A. Alex walks to the table and picks up a newspaper. He pages
through it with determination, then stops when he sees what he is
looking for. He frowns.
ALEX. What? I look like an idiot!
Kara is passing by. She stops.
KARA. Is something wrong?
ALEX. Yeah, I should have trusted you when you told me not to use
that other photographer.
B. Kara's phone rings. She looks at it, waits for a beat, then finally
picks up.
KARA (falsely cheery). Alex! Great to hear from you.
Pause. Relief comes over her face.
Did you like them? Really? Oh, I'm so glad.
O C. Alex extends his hand Kara shakes it nervously.
ALEX. You're going to make me look good, right?
KARA. I'll do my best. You can look over them before I publish any
of them.
The two find an empty wall for Alex to pose against and Kara
begins shooting.
D. Alex poses. Kara clicks the shutter. She observes the shot in the
viewfinder and laughs softly to herself as if seeing something
amusing.
ALEX. What? What was it?
KARA. Nothing. You looked great. Pause. I promise.
