My House, It Cries How does the poem's organization lead to a
surprise ending?
This noisy house of mine
Complains so much of the time.
Out of bed, as my foot hits the ground
A creaking moan begins to sound.
The first stanzas show that the speaker's
house needs repairs while the last stanzas
show the speaker repairs homes for others.
"Help, please help," loose floorboards say
But I must hurry to begin my work day.
"Help, please help," they still insist
"later," I say, and yet they porsist.
The first stanzas show that the speaker's
house is noisy, while the last stanzas show
that the noise is not real
Then, in the kitchen a soggy surprise,
I look up at the ceiling and rub my eyes
Drip, drip drip. What is that sound?
A puddle of rain, like tears on the ground.
