Read excerpt from "Improving Old MacDonald's Farm."
One important source of water pollution caused by farming
activities is called sedimentation. Sedimentation occurs when
wind or water runoff carries soil particles and dumps them inta
a nearby lake or stream. Too much sediment can cloud the
water, which reduces the amount of sunlight that reaches
aquatic plants. It can also clog the gills of fish or smother fish
larvae.
How does the structure identified in Part A contribute to the
development of ideas in this section of the article?
It shows that because farming activities are
polluting the water, sedimentation occurs.
It compares the effects of sedimentation on aquatic
plants to the impact on fish.
It describes how farming activities have caused
sedimentation throughout history
o It explains the steps that lead to water pollution
