Pretend you are a soldier or nurse in the Civil War. Write a letter home in which you describe/explain at least (4) of the following:
the strengths and weaknesses of your side in the war
the military strategies of your side and your personal opinion about them
why you (or your side) are fighting this war
one particular battle and its significance to the whole war
how the war is affecting you personally
how the Civil War is the “first modern war”
Your letter should be carefully written, with complete sentences and paragraphs, an introduction, and a conclusion. Be sure the date on your letter makes sense with the contents.
Here is a link to a website (Links to an external site.) with a collection of actual Civil War Letters. They are in script, but if you select a letter, and scroll down to the "Transcript" button on the lower left, a typed version of the letter will appear.
