Most of Brazil's tribal people maintain their native languages and traditions. However, they are in danger. The
tribes face a host of threats from outsiders. They include fishing, hunting, and mining. Oil companies and loggers
invade the tribes' lands and properties. Survival International is a support organization for indigenous people.
According to the organization, logging on the Peru-Brazil border has sent many tribe members fleeing from their
homes. Brazil's environmental protection agency says that it has shut down at least 28 sawmills operating
illegally.
