The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of African-American fighter pilots. They served with distinction in World War II despite bigotry and racism at home. In March 2007, Congress awarded the airmen one of the nation's highest honors. President Bush joined congressional leaders in presenting the veterans with the Congressional Gold Medal.
