During this period, the society placed great importance on the division of the social class ladder, from rich to poor. There was a class for every section of the society. The rich did not want to be put at par with the poor, and some hardly ever interact with the lower classes of the society. Their belief is that this social standing demarcation will ensure that the people of different social classes do not interrupt or disturb people from other classes, and that order will be maintained in this way. They maintained a strict social structure that sometimes seem even preposterous in today's time. There are even separate places of seating in public places, theaters and halls. This was in an attempt to keep the poor in their place and decorum is maintained everywhere. Daughters aren't even allowed to marry below their own family's social standing.
