every september throughout high school, one of the guidance counselors, whose name i can’t recall, has visited my homeroom. she conducts a series of lessons designed to discourage bullying. during one lesson, we had to pair up with strangers and discover common interests. i learned that a quiet girl i had never spoken to was as interested in professional soccer as i was. we have been friends ever since. another time, the counselor delivered the lesson in portuguese to show us what it feels like to be unable to understand in class. that me feel sympathy for new kids and exchange students, and i tried harder to welcome them to our school. last week, we tried to steer wheelchairs up the ramps in our building. that made it challenging to get to class on time!
