This is because in the poem she tells him that all his materialistic possessions will soon fade and wither, basically die, with time. So with her telling him this, she basically says I don't think that your feelings for me will last at all. Especially, since his views on their future only seem to happen around objects that won't last. Like the seasons change so will his views.
