The tone of the author is how his attitude is expressed throughout his write-up. The attitudes expresses his feelings towards the subject presently being addressed. If the author addresses or describes a subject with an adjective, then, note how the adjective expresses the author's tone towards the subject.

Readers will naturally respond to what is being expressed. The writer, through the use of his choice of words, makes the readers begin to feel according to the tone of the story. The feeling the readers get from the story is a pointer to the author's tone.
