“The world on the Turtle’s back” is a story which is about the Iroquois tribe who lived in North America as a confederacy during the early 1700s and this tribe absorbed many other individuals from various people to their tribes because of adoption of captives and also by offering shelter to the people who were displaced. They were also known by the name of Iroquois league during the French colonial years. The term Iroquois refers to six different native American groups which were the Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Mohawk, and Tuscarora.

“The world on the Turtle’s back” was passed by one generation to the other by Iroquois tribe and it was during the period of the 1800s when David Cusick, who was an Iroquois author recorded a version of this story and got that printed and today around 25 written versions of this story are available in different languages.
