The poem creates a scary, shivery feeling because the bat and the chipmunk are afraid of the owl. I know this because in the story it said, ““It’s terrible, just terrible! Is there really something like that at night?”

The bat said: “If it weren’t for that hole in the oak he’d have got me.”

The chipmunk said in a determined voice: “I’m going to bed earlier. Sometimes when there’re lots of nuts I stay out till it’s pretty dark; but believe me, I’m never going to again.”” The bat and the chipmunk were explaining their encounter with the owl.
