During the termination stage, both people that were in the relationship choose to terminate their relationship with one another. No longer are they both getting a commonly gratifying result from being with one another. Neither one of them is cheering and the connection must proceed to a terminal. In this model, this step is inevitable and connections can end at any time. An end can happen due to physical detachment, developing socially or psychologically distant, or the passing of one of the associates. Communication in this stage is characterized by distance (an effort to establish mental and physical boundaries between associates) and disassociation (notes that provide one or both individuals for their life without the other).
