A character vs. self conflict is one that occurs inside the mind of a character. It is usually one that deals with a character's feelings, such as regret, indecision, lack of confidence, loneliness, etc. In this case, the fourth case is an example of character vs. self conflict. The problem is the boy's indecision, and this occurs within the boy's mind, not with any outside force.
