This dialogue occurs after Mercutio, Benvolio, Tybalt and Romeo bump into each other. Romeo, now married to Juliet, does not  wish to fight Tybalt because now he is a member of his family. Tybalt, however, continues to bother him, and Mercutio decides to fight instead of Romeo. Although Romeo tries to intervene, Tybalt wounds Mercutio, and as he is dying, he curses both the Capulet and the Montague, as their enmity was the reason for his death.
