Please help me if you can. How do I be more descriptive, creative, and a bit more suspenseful in this sentence?

"I scanned my room for a weapon. Spying on the ground there were my blue slippers, I grabbed them, my hands were shaking. I moved slowly, getting as close as I could. Before swinging at the spider, I paused to take a deep breath. I was stressed and panicking. In my head, I shouted, "I am bigger than that spider; I will kill that spider!" With a two-handed grip on the slippers, I swung my slippers and pressed it. I let go of my slippers and just then...(I want end the story but I don't know how to. I'm thinking of saying something like I conquered my fears but I just don't know how to end the story)."

I stood rigid, scanning the room, looking for a weapon. On the ground near me was a pair of bright blue fuzzy slippers. With shaking hands, I reached for them, grabbing the left slipper with a fist so tight my knuckles turned white. With a weapon in my clutches, I was able to breathe again, pulling much-needed air into my lungs, trying to think through the frantic haze in my mind. One, two, I counted my footsteps as I approached the threat. I looked it in one of its eight eyes, and it moved ever so slightly, the way only these monsters can move. I crept forward towards this incarnation of nightmares. I can do this, I told myself, refusing to back down. Then, I lifted my trembling arm, and with a single mighty swing, I took its life. I was even more scared to lift the slipper, scared to see if it had lived. But it had not. All that was left were the splattered remains of a spider, which I knew I would have to wipe off my wall. But I had conquered my fears. No monster, demon, nor man would ever stand above me in my own house; never again.
