Read the following passage: Vincent’s first view of Arles was cold, deep snow. After a fifteen-hour train journey, he lugged his heavy baggage through the thick white drifts into the town, down an avenue of plane trees, through red stone towers, to the Hotel Carrel, where he rented a room for five francs a night-too much money, in his opinion, and no warmth anywhere.
