Read the following excerpt from a narrative about growing up in the Dust Bowl in the 1930s: The wind howled across the fields, whipping up a funnel of dust and dirt that stretched as high as Lil could see. The dust devil was heading for them, no doubt. Soon the wooden plank floors of the house would be covered in an ash-gray dust, and everyone would be picking metallic-tasting grit from their teeth. And no one was going anywhere until it was over.
