In this exercise, your task is simply to invent a personality like Holden Caulfield and write a story (at least 500 words) in the form of their inner monologue. Your narrator won't simply tell the story—his or her personality will become the very story itself. The plot doesn't have to be interesting or exciting because the main point of your story is how your narrator/protagonist viewed its events. Take inspiration from Salinger and make your narrator irreverent and casual. Tell the story as though he or she were really telling it, along with all of their little conversational quirks and habits.
