The universe may glitter with three times as many stars as scientists once thought. For years, scientists calculated the number of stars this way: First, they figured out the number of stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way. Then, they
multiplied that by the number of galaxies in the universe. However, not all galaxies are the same. The Milky Way
is a spiral galaxy, while others are elliptical. Elliptical galaxies typically have more stars than spiral galaxies. After
accounting for this, scientists say that there are 300 sextillion stars in the universe.
