So, I'm creating a character with Japanese ancestry and I am planning to name him Tsukuyomi, after the moon god. But he has very white friends who find his full name hard to pronounce, so they want to nickname him Tsuki, but this name is normally used for females in the Japanese culture. Would it be offensive to use the name "Tsuki" for a boy, even though it is considered a name for a female?

Please do not answer, if you are not 100% sure or a part of the Japanese culture or community. I need a legitimate answer and can't find one anywhere else. I've tried doing research for an answer, but goo. gle doesn't help. I just don't want to offend or disrespect anyone.

Thank you.
