Alright so I plan on starting a GSA this fall when I start my senior year, and I wrote this speech just in case I needed it. What do you think?
We Need A GSA~ A speech written by Thailer Hayes D.
My opinion may not matter to you but it matters to someone. Someone out there needs someone to support them. To love them when their family has declared that they wonāt. I can live losing the people I thought loved me. Iāve done it my whole life. My best friend dying, my āmotherā abandoning me a thousand times, some of my friends leaving, I lived through this all. Alone. But some other people canāt. They canāt lose those people. I canāt replace the people they lost, but I can promise that I will never leave them for anything like religion, race, sexuality, etc. Because those things shouldnāt matter. They shouldnāt bother people. These people deserve the world, they deserve love, they deserve respect, they deserve support, something Iām willing to give a million times over. Because how can I support myself and not support another? I wouldnāt be able to live with myself. And anyone out there who doesnāt accept people who are different how do you live with yourself? When you know that what you say can kill people. When you know that youāre wrong. I will never be like you. Ever. And if Iām specific Iāll never be my dad. Because my dad doesnāt accept me. My dad doesnāt accept that Iām transgender, that Iām different. My āDadā says Iāll never be in a real relationship. My āDadā says Iām mutilating my body. If you support trans people stand up. If you donāt care, stand up. You are the reason Iām strong. Because without people like you Iād give up and let my dad pressure me into being a girl. Because of you Iām able to accept myself for who I am and not be ashamed. I want to build a place, a group of people, a club here in Headland High School so kids like me have somewhere to go to when their family doesnāt accept them, I want to give them a safe place to go during break every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I want to give them hope. This school deserves a Gay-Straight Alliance and Iām willing to lead one. All I need is 4 other people to join me in this club gay, straight, cis, trans, etc. So that I can provide that safe space, so WE can give hope. Soā¦.. whoās with me?
