Theme 6:Question 3 Which of the following statements best expresses the central idea of this text?

The smart phone is an absolutely essential part of daily life. We use it to communicate with one another by text and spoken word almost without thinking about it. We use it to check our email and social media, and respond to messages instantaneously. It's hard to believe that just a few short years ago there was no such thing as a smart phone. In fact, there was no such thing as a cell phone! Back before the turn of the 21st century, people used what are called land lines. A person would call a telephone located in another person's house. If no one was home, an answering machine would take a message. It could be hours before the message was received and answered Incredibly, there was even a time before answering machines. Instead of hearing a message from an answering machine, callers would hear busy signals (indicating that the phone was in use) or would hear the phone ring many times indicating that no one was home). When this happened, the caller had no choice but to ring again. The advent of smart cell phones is exciting because it makes it so much easier to communicate. On the other hand, it makes it impossible to step away from communication. Back in the olden days it was harder to stay in touch, but much easier to get away from it all!

Select one:

O Telephones have gone through many changes over time.

O It was hard to reach people before the invention of answering machines.

O There are pros and cons to instant communication.

O Smart phones are a wonderful invention. โ€‹
