Rosa Parks was an African-American woman. She lived in Montgomery, Alabama, USA. When Rosa Parks was alive, there happened to be segregation in place. White people and black people couldn't go to the same school, restaurants, or even drink from the same water fountain! Also, white people were allowed to sit in the front of buses, while blacks had to sit in the back. Rosa Parks had refused to give up her seat to a white man when the bus was full. Therefore, she was arrested.
