How does the conflict of William Tell affect the play? Tell and his wife disagree about Tell's decision to resist foreign rule and fight for freedom. Tell must choose between bowing to the cap or taking action that puts his son's life at risk. Tell refuses to follow Gessler's orders and he and his son are placed under arrest. Tell has to decide whether to kill Gessler for forcing him to shoot the apple from his son's head.
