The Purpose of a Parable One day a wealthy man took his son to the countryside so that the son could see
how poor people lived. They stayed at the farm of a very poor family for a night
and a day. When they returned home to their mansion, the father asked the son
what he thought of the trip. The son replied that it was very enlightening. The
father asked if he understood how poor people could be. "Yes, the son
answered. "I saw that we have a small dog and they have the deer, rabbits, and
other wildlife coming and going in their yard. I saw that we have a pool that
reaches to the garden, but they have a creek that goes on forever. We must
depend on imported lamps, while they have the stars above. Our fence marks
the limit of our property, but they have the whole horizon." The father listened
and was speechless.
What do you think is the moral of this parable?
