Bad apples

In this bottomless ravine

A smog of 'self importance' convenes

This vain world of I, me and mine

Sulphuric fumes of pettiness define

You're the judge, you're the jury

Wrath of your pettiness, out with a fury

All other beings must duly comply

Conform to your thinking, there's no reason why

You're the bad apples

Like a game of chess

Not a play of sportiness, one must confess

A brewing caldron of negative emotions

A pointy hatted witch and her potions

Really, must leave you alone to fester

Rot your own heart and mind, to pester

From a distance, so friendly and so sweet

When closer, an adorned throne of conceit

Wait for that first greeting, when you meet

An undeniable stench of nothing but deceit

So smoothly ruthless at times

That one may almost miss the crimes

But never does a deed go unnoticed

As the nature of Karma is so focussed

I stand back and look at this race

To find who's come far with amazing grace

Not so many, but at least a few

Who shine as beacons through and through

I cannot lose faith in the good on this Earth

If anything I've learnt, it is life's worth

Pettiness I have no patience for

Those few bad apples I can happily ignore!
