It tells the tragic story of George Milton and Lennie Small, throughout the Great Depression's California, on the banks of the Salinas River near Soledad, California, where two migrant workers, walk on their way to a nearby ranch. These have recently just escaped from a farm near Weed where Lennie, a mentally disabled man but a gentleman, has been accused of trying to touched a woman to feel the softness of his dress.‎

They must survive their opressive, impoverished circumstances and become financially stable enough to own land together.
