Some plants such as orchid plant or strangler fig have roots above the ground, what do we call them? How do they get water to grow?

Roots are generally used for anchorage and absorption in plants, however, they do not always grow below ground level as seen in most plants. Roots called AERIAL ROOTS grow into the air above the ground as observed in plants such as epiphytic orchids and strangler fig.

These plants i.e. orchids and figs get water to grow with the aid of the AERIAL ROOTS they possess. Aerial roots in orchids absorb water from the air while those in strangler figs absorb it from the plants they entangle.
