Archaeologists believe that they have located the long-lost skeleton of Princess Eadgyth. Eadgyth (pronounced "Edith") was an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman during the tenth century. Scientists are testing the bones to determine whether they are hers. The skeleton was found inside Magdeburg Cathedral in Germany. Eadgyth's name was carved on the coffin. If the bones are Eadgyth's, they will be the oldest complete set of remains of any English royalty. During her lifetime, Eadgyth's half-brother King Athelstan ruled all of England. He had Eadgyth marry Duke Otto of Saxony, who ultimately became one of Europe's most powerful rulers. As duchess, Eadgyth's role was to dazzle the public.
