In The Land, Mildred Taylor uses Paul's contlicts with other boys to show Paul's struggles. At the beginning of
the novel, Mitchell hits Paul for what seems like no
reason. When Paul asks why he does it, Mitchell replies,
"felt like it." A simple feeling does not seem like a good
reason. However, later, the reader finds out why Mitchell
feels like it. He thinks Paul acts superior because of who
his father is and because he can read. Mitchell knows that
Paul has privileges that he does not, including the ability
to read and to have his white brothers defend him,
Which would be a good concluding statement for this
unfinished student paragraph?
However, I believe that Paul will learn from his
conflicts as he figures out where he fits in with
people his age.
This shows how Mildred D. Taylor uses conflict in
many different ways throughout the novel
This conflict sets up other conflicts Paul has with
people his age because it shows that he is not
accepted by African American teenagers.
