Why do Presidents invite poets to speak at the inauguration?

that's a good question, I think it has to do with the fact that poetry can be more moving, then just reading a normal speech, also poetry tends to stick better

From my perspective, throughout my knowledge, I see that presidents invite poets to speak at their inaugurations simply because society sees this as "formal."
