I’m excited to be your middle schooler’s English Language Arts teacher and look forward to a great year working together to ensure your child’s success. Originally from Upper Michigan, I traveled a winding path to becoming a teacher. I’ve been a missile mechanic in the U. S. Air Force, a waitress, a volunteer coordinator, and at-home mom. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Secondary English Education, including a middle school endorsement. For 10+ years I taught 7-12th grade English near Green Bay, Wisconsin, and most recently I’ve taught 7th and 8th grade ELA at AMS. I have two children: a daughter Quinn, 25, and a son Joseph, 20.

I choose to teach because I believe each child can achieve strong reading and writing skills which will positively impact his or her future. Although my expectations are high, I know together we can grow these vital skills in your child.

One of my greatest beliefs is in the power of reading ~ reading anything! Because research shows good readers become good writers, I’ll ask your middle schooler to constantly have a book in hand and read as many books for pleasure as possible over the course of the year. We have an amazing classroom library with various genres of books; however, if students find something they would like to read and I don’t have it, I will find it!
