Basically it was just blowing harder and colder at night rather than during the day. It's still blowing but is different in terms of serverity

*The wind is still blowing. It still has a personality, however when the nights grew darker and colder, the wind blew harder and bolder. The wind during the day is more aesthetic in a sense, it's prettier, it's more wispy, and almost more friendly. During the night however, it's totally different, and yet it's not. It's still the wind, except it's blowing harder. It's colder, it's not as forgiving, it's more severe. It's almost a wind version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Two different personalities. Two different experiences.

the poet compares the two by describing the autumn wind as calm, gentle, and just a nice breeze during the day. In the night however, the wind is not so gentle and is very agressive and strong to the point where he believed it could blow a chimney down. In other words, the wind during the day is calm and the wind during the night is agressive.
