Is this correct formatting for italics in a narrative written in first person? If, not, can you rewrite it? The part on quotes is where the italics are. Thanks My name is John Salvatore, 35 years old, born on July 10, 2000, single. At the start of that very day, behind my eyelids, I questioned myself, "Today is my birthday, isn't it?"

I woke up, enlightened, knowing it was my birthday. Usually, I wake up groggy and grumpy. I went through my daily routines of working at the Good Deals Grocery Store as a manager. I watched over the cashiers, monitoring the store. It was just a usual morning; my coworker, Bill, approached me from behind.
