Lord of the Flies Chapter 11 Read up to page 180. When you get to 180, stop. Answer the following by yourself on a piece of paper.
1. They don’t want to talk about it. Find the line where Ralph can’t bring himself to talk about what happened to Simon. Write it down, with page number.
2. How does Ralph suggest they approach Jack and his tribe? Does it seem to work? Can you think of a better tactic they could have used?
3. Obviously Piggy wants his glasses back, but why does he think Jack should give them back? It’s so quintessentially Piggy and it fits his nature and all of his symbolic connections. Find the line where Piggy explains why he thinks Jack should return his glasses and write it down.
4. Find and copy down two lines that talk about the effect of the face paint.
5. Roger repeats some behavior from earlier in the book. What does he do? Does it seem different in any way this time? How so? Explain.
6. Find the line where Ralph calls all of this a “game”. Does this seem like a game? To all of the kids? Some of the kids? Is there anything you can infer from Ralph calling it a game? Any deeper meaning or thought to it?
7. What happens to Samneric just before you stopped reading? Do the body count, if we’re split into two groups how many kids are now left on Ralph’s side?
