It's important to follow these guidelines to keep others safe and healthy. For example elderly people or people with health problems are most likely to die or get severely sick. So, by helping these people and keeping not only them but others around us safe is to follow these guidelines. It makes a difference if you follow them

because if just one person gets sick with Corona then he/she will infect everyone in the are because Corona travels in the air spreading it so baisclly  only one person gets sick you get sick too because they will pass it on to other people and other people will pass it on to other people and so on.
