By today's standards, early automobiles were difficult to operate and uncomfortable to drive. a driver had to start the car's engine by cranking it by hand, and the crank sometimes sprang back and broke the driver's thumb. early cars were open on top, so driving on unpaved roads left riders choking on dust and dirt.

if you look at a byron poem (the isles of greece is a good one) - byron looks at nature mainly for what it already means to man. wordsworth will look at a landscape and see the mountains, trees, valleys, and rivers as almost spiritual presences - wordsworth wants to get to know nature.
