THE DAMAGING TRAITS OF STRICT, OVERPROTECTIVE PARENTS

Visualise this, Emily an eager to learn girl arrives home from a day at hell just to face the moans and yells of her mum who is demanding her to start studying. After facing all the peer pressure and work stress from school the pressure persistently burdens on her. Feeling all the world’s weight on her shoulders and drained out the only solution to is stomp furiously up her room to open a textbook and to “revise” – or to just stare into the book whilst texting her mates.

I can hear the gasps of astonishment, why would a bright girl be lying to her mother and pretending to revise, well essentially her mother has caused her to be rebellious. If someone continuously forced me to revise, I would feel desensitised to the importance of what they are saying, and go to the extent where pretending to study would be the only solution. Alongside with school stress, how can young people manage to revise continually, obviously it is crucial to relax as well. Statistics have proven that if a child manages their time, so that means studies whilst simultaneously does leisure activates, the process of learning will be much more effective and they will be able to consolidate their memory.

Additionally, if young people have a free will and more opportunities to make their own decisions this will make them more independent and self-determining. If adults always correct young people’s mistakes, the truth is they will never distinguish between right and wrong. Adults should stop being so absorbed into young people’s life because they need to be responsible for their own actions and they need to be less dependent on others. Adults need to face the truth and stop interfering in young people’s affairs, and perhaps be more involved in their own life.

“But without parents escorting young people to the right path they will do wrong and make several mistakes”, says the middle-age, authoritarian parent, but the main question is why are parents so self-involved in their child’s life , do you want your daughter/son to grow up remembering such a depressing, futile childhood bombarded with study and homework? Majority of people convey that their childhood was the best period of their life before all the bills, work and stress was added. I am striving to convey that children need to have fun, saying this it is also vital to study, however there is no purpose in life if we are just gloomy, melancholy robots.

Finally, I am certain that parents also had fun when they were younger, parents need to understand that enjoyment is a paramount importance in one’s life, we are humans, and our purpose is not to be insensitive, part of what makes us a human is our happiness and pleasure. Ultimately, unequivocally, I strongly believe that young people should be allowed to have fun whilst they still can.
